Decreased in:
- Iron deficiency
- Nephrotic syndrome
- Chronic renal failure
- Many infections
- Active hematopoiesis
- Remission of pernicious anemia
- Some malignancies (some carcinomas)
- Gastrectomy
- Nutritional (children and premenopausal women)
- Pregnancy
- Chronic blood loss due to bleeding
